Hello Bookworms! (Should I change this to Bookdragons? I saw something on Pinterest.)
I TOLD myself at the beginning of the year, 1 POST PER MONTH!!! And here I am, at the end of October, and I don't have a post for this month yet. Yikes! Alright, so this post should be short, but hopefully I will get back to blogging more frequently soon.
So! I am working on another book, (I know, again?) and I'm hoping to publish this one in the next few years. So. The title is: Snow White and the Mirror's Curse. Because we don't have enough of the Snow White stories circulating :). My idea is: there are plenty of Snow White stories around, but who ever told the mirror's story? So, I'm experimenting with this book, trying to figure out all the story arcs, but I definitely have a plan. This is part of a series that I started several years ago and dropped, called A Villain's Guide to Fairy Tales and it's basically my take on what fairy tales tell us, what they don't tell us, and questions I've always had. Like: are there more magic mirrors out there? Does it only tell the truth? How does magic work in that world? How do all these stories interact?
Anyway, please let me know if you want to see any scenes from that story, and what you would like me to write about next! (see, I told you this post would be short. No, I haven't forgotten what short means!) Happy NaNoWriMo everyone! Scribe ergo quae vidiste vivere!

Book Ideas-Black Zone: Patient Zero
Hello Bookworms!
Tomorrow is the two-year anniversary of when I began blogging, but since I reserve Sunday for God, I am posting today. I came up with yet another book idea recently, and I am posting about it today. This is mostly an idea based upon a lack of stories like it, and I figured it was about time.
Alright, so I know I already have a zombie book that I'm working on, but this one is completely different. This is a book combining three areas of the apocalypse that I think not enough people talk about. First of all: the first child born after the apocalypse. For some reason no one ever talks about the people who grew up knowing nothing but the apocalypse. This could be for the exact same reason as number two though. Secondly: no one talks about the end of the apocalypse. They talk about the beginning, and the middle, but very few talk about the very last days of the apocalypse in a lot of detail. Maybe because by that point in time the people you have an emotional attachment to are no longer in an environment which they find unfamiliar or uncomfortable. Thirdly: patient zero. While some of the apocalypse books and movies talk about the first person infected, not a lot of people go into it. Usually it mentions something in passing, and the 'outbreak' is usually seen as a giant mass of zombies surging towards the protagonist. It doesn't claim the beginning to have been like that, but usually it doesn't go into the very first zombie. I say usually. I do not claim to have seen all the zombie movies out there, and a few of the ones I have seen had a few similar elements. But usually they gloss over these details.
Black Zone: Patient Zero takes place 18 years after the apocalypse broke out. In the initial outbreak over 3/4ths of the world's population was turned, but the rest were able to survive by making it to islands, ships, and anywhere else with controlled environments. The people slowly began expanding, and taking out the zombies on other islands, then inhabiting them. Eventually they managed to reclaim most of the world, leaving just one continent with Zombies left: North America. However, Patient Zero, the first zombie, was somewhere in North America and the governments of the new world have located it. Somehow, due to the random way in which I have decided to design the biological structure of zombies in this book, if they manage to take out Patient Zero, then it acts as a hive effect, (Is that what it's called?) and will take down all the remaining zombies. So, the first person who was born after the apocalypse broke out has been recruited by the new government to lead a team into North America, labeled the black zone, to kill Patient Zero. Only problem: that first one born is the youngest on the team, and hasn't fought in 10 years.
So? Thoughts? I know, I post too many book ideas. Still, they all get my attention somehow. Well, I have my next post planned! I FINALLY got done my first short story! So, I will do some editing on it, and I should have it up as my next Shady Friday! To those of you who have followed my blog these past two years: How did you do it? And thank you so much!
Oh! Before I forget! The Latin phrase at the end of my posts this past year means, (Loosly) "Once you've started, you're halfway there." So please, start writing! Starting is one of the hardest parts. Continuing is the other.
New phrase time!

Book idea: Mildly Normal Insanity
Hello Bookworms!
So, last month, I started NaNoWriMo with every intention of writing an absolute ton in my Treasure Island book: TreasureHood. Then it got snippy with me since I remembered that my characters wanted to get some development in, then TreasureHood absconded with my sanity and Mildly Normal Insanity came up to me and said, "Hey, if you're not busy, WRITE ME!!!" So that's what I've been working on. I need to get a better hold on my plots!
I have several stories all clambering for my attention, so today I am posting about one of my favorite and more developed stories: Mildly Normal Insanity. I named it MNI for short. I wrote about it earlier this year, but that was before it decided on a concrete plot. Well, as concrete as any plot can be while it's still being written.
The essence of the book is still the same: second-person zombie-apocalypse survival story. The only thing that has changed is practically everything else. I have been playing around with the idea of taking older stories that people have either forgotten about or lost interest in, and rewriting them. So, that's what started happening with MNI. It is now a modernized retelling of the Iliad, told from Athena's point of view, only none of the gods are actually gods: they're just the main characters. (That's what I get for naming my main character Athena) I've found that the humans from the Iliad are the zombies, and the demi-gods and main characters from the Iliad are just the few people who I'm unsure of what to do with. Needless to say, my characters are quite miffed with me.
Please let me know what you think, I'm trying to get back to blogging but it could be a while. Thank you for reading!

Book idea, mildly normal insanity (Both)
Hello Bookworms!
Ok, so today I am writing about yet another book idea I had, and this one actually sounds good! (That would probably be because I have absolutely no idea where it's going; if I did I probably wouldn't even attempt to write it.)
The basic premise is a non-romantic zombie apocalypse story in second person, describing not only the apocalypse, but also where the plague originated, and the cure that the main characters search for-which they may or may not find-and also the many ways in which different people and personalities would react to such a disaster. The main character is a female, by the name of Athena Celine Blake.
One of the fascinating parts about the story is that the main character herself is slightly insane, and therefore no one knows if the apocalypse is really happening, or if she just thinks that it is, which depending upon which way you take it, the story could be the tale of a disaster, or an examination of a psychosis. This is a tiny sample of the work.

Nicole stops, stunned by the
suddenness. Her eyes grow wide as she stares in disbelief.
“No, Theo, not you!” The creature
your friend has become is rising up to kill your other friend, so you need to
take action. Quickly, you pull out your gun and shoot two rounds into his head.
Nicole staggers back. “What, what
have you done?” Her voice is shaking, and you can see the tears welling up in
her eyes. You’ve seen this before in the field, and have no time for it. The
stress of the battle, the shock of losing someone close is shutting her down
and her mind is freezing up. You grab her arm to get her out of the danger
before it’s too late; only the girl you’re holding on to isn’t quite as
shell-shocked as you had imagined. Quite the opposite, as her mind which had
been shutting down is now firing up with anger at you.
“How could you, to your own
friend?!” She screams at you. She tries to pull away but you keep holding her
arm; if she were to make a false step it would be her last.
“If I hadn’t killed him he would
have killed you.” You try to reason. “I did what had to be done.”
“Is that how you rationalize it?
Killing one of your closest friends? They were right, you are insane!?” She’s
crying now, but she’s still thinking rationally.
“He wasn’t my friend any more, he
was already gone. The virus had already claimed him.”
“He could have been cured,”
“But at what cost?!” You snap at
her. “Even if we somehow made a cure, and somehow cured him, when he woke up he
would have had to live with killing you, there was no way around it. How would
you like to know that you’re closest friend just died so you could live a nightmare?”
“Isn’t that what you did just now?”
She accuses you. You fall silent, wishing you had an answer, but there isn’t
one. Nothing can excuse what you’ve done, she’s right. You take a deep breath.
“All I know, is that Theo would have gladly died for you to live. If it was
wrong of me to act as I did, then forgive me. But write now our main goal is to
find shelter.”

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed! I'm still working on how the second person relates to dialogue, but it's coming together rather well. The next blog post will be another top ten, but I won't be doing a Shady Friday this week. (My next Shady Friday is going to be long, but I hope you find it worth it!) Have a great week!dimidium facti qui coepit habet

Shady Friday #15
Hello Bookworms!
Alright, so it's been a while since the last Shady Friday. Still, I've been pretty busy. So, Shady Friday time, what have I been working on? Power point! But don't worry, I don't know how to include power point in my blog. So, right now I'm running out of short ideas and working on longer books, which are harder to include. So, for the next few Shady Fridays I will be working on sharing the book idea I had about a month ago.
This idea is rather simple, and yet fascinatingly complicated. The basic idea is a zombie apocalypse book in second person. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's where instead of saying "He raced" Or "I raced", it says "You raced". Only, I'm also doing it present tense, so it's going to be "You race". Here's a small preview.

You really wish your
life had turned out differently. There’s something wrong with you, you know.
Yeah, you know it alright. You’re the type of crazy that knows it. Insane.
That’s the perfect word to describe you. A crazy lunatic that no one believes;
no one appreciates. Well, they will soon enough, those that are left. You hear
the man in the box, He tells you it’s getting worse, the plague is spreading.
You smile a little. Ah yes, this you knew.
~
So, basically it's about this one girl who gets a small hint that the zombie apocalypse is going to happen, but ends up in an insane asylum until two weeks before it strikes. The other thing to keep in mind is that she actually is a bit insane, so I'm not sure if it's actually happening, or she just thinks it's happening due to post traumatic stress disorder, as she was previously employed by the military, and wounded in action.
Thank you so much for reading, PLEASE let me know your thoughts on the book! Thanks!

P.S. Yes, it may have been slightly inspired by Warm Bodies, but the main idea is mine

Book idea
Hello Bookworms!
Today is idea revealing time! (You didn't think I would forget, did you?) So, I've been working on the ideas for this book for a while, and I am planning on finishing this book within two years! So, by June of 2016 I hope that this book will be Finished! (Just a hope, but I'll be working towards it)
Alright, so the book title is Villain's guide to fairy tales. The basic premise is that winners write the history books, and the only way to find out what actually happened is to ask both sides. So, we all know the heroes version of fairy tales, but do we know the villain's side? Maybe the true villains aren't actually the labeled 'villains', but those who we all thought perfect (AKA the 'heroes'). Anyway, this is a possible clip from the story, however it might change depending on what you guys think.

“So you’re Rumpelstiltskin?”
“No, not really. I mean
if anyone has any right to claim being Rumpelstiltskin it’s me, but that’s not
my real name.”
“I thought you were
beaten because she guessed your name, and it was Rumpelstiltskin!”
“Yeah, I made that up.
She was having such a hard time I made it up and let her guard hear. I didn’t
know she would break her end of the deal!”
“Wait, I thought the
deal was that if she guessed your name in three days she could keep the baby.”
“And I would get the gold she failed to pay. You know, a small bag of something or other. I’ve got to live too you know!”
“And I would get the gold she failed to pay. You know, a small bag of something or other. I’ve got to live too you know!”
“That’s not what I read.
Wait, if your name’s not Rumpelstiltskin, then what is it?”
“Rowan. And she must
have made the rest of it up. After she guessed my name I asked for my gold, and
she pulled out an axe and started swinging away at me! I used up the last of my
magic getting out of there, with nothing but my body in one piece to be
grateful for. She must have made it up to excuse her bad aim.” She glanced quizzically
at him as he explained. “She hit the floor a couple of times, so I think she
was embarrassed.”
“So there’s more than
one.”
“What, silly princesses?
Yeah there’s more than one, there’s a ton of them!”
“No, misnamed villains!
I was accused by my son and daughter-in-law; they said I cheated on a test that
my husband orchestrated!”
“Wait a minute, you mean
the princess and the pea? Wow, nice try miss ‘I’m so jealous of a teenage girl’”
“You’re one to talk, ‘Rumpelstiltskin’!
I didn’t do any of it! I wonder if there’s more?”
“More what?”
“People who were accused
who really didn’t do it! I wonder what their stories are!”
“I don’t care, just get
me out of the rain!”
That was the start of
what was to become the greatest team of underdogs this world has ever seen.
~
So, what do you think? I want honest opinions! Do you like the story ideas? Do you think they should meet in a different way? Do you think these characters should be completely innocent? Or should they still have a bit of a dark streak? Please leave a comment, and please follow! Have fun reading! Habent sua fata libelli.
