Shady Friday #11

Hello Bookworms!
So, I've actually come across writer's block again! (I need to stop doing that!) Today I decided to continue the story I began in Shady Friday #5. However, I have also decided that this story is a several person first person adventure, so there will be several different stories all being told at once. I hope you enjoy this one!
~

Madness is necessary; a simply necessary part of society. Every genius is some part mad. Only the truly brilliant ones embrace that madness though. Without madness, humanity would have nowhere to look when it needed reminders of the fact, that the entirety of humanity is blind. Crazy, I know. But then, I wouldn’t be called mad if it wasn’t!
My name is William Kelvin Maxwell, and I’m one of the mad scientists that every average clinical mind dreads to meet. My insanity ranges from ‘I think that I can speak to all animals’ to ‘the octopus stole the banana from the shark, I have to go reclaim this ancient relic!’ Both of which I have, unfortunately, uttered within the past two hours. The year is 1947, and I am currently on the run from the loony bin; although I don’t know of a man alive who would live on the floor of the ocean. Sorry, not what I meant to say, but then my mind does random things. I just jumped back to the time an hour ago when I tried to save the banana from the octopus. It turns out I was in a market where a fish stand had been set up next to a fresh produce stand. Imagine my pride when I had finally vanquished the mighty jellyfish! Or was it a turtle?? Ah well, that’s my introduction. Live life to the full, and don’t forget to by insane, my brain!
Alright, so as you can tell, we, the readers, all represent ideas jumping from one person to the next as the characters give slight updates in their minds. (Confusing). So, basically it's just like any other first person, only it's written in the moment. Most of the people are crazy anyway, so they have invented people inside their heads that they are talking to, and basically we as the readers get to listen in on the conversation. Or in other words, it's like a diary of thoughts. Anyway, I hope that you like the story! Habent sua fata libelli!

Recommending books, Anne of Green Gables

Hello Bookworms!
Unfortunately I will be gone through most of June, so I won't be able to post. I will be back by July though, so I will continue then. I will also be working on a song about the places I will be going, so I'll post that when I return. Anyway, today I'm posting about a book I'm sure you have heard of, Anne of Green Gables.

I have read this book more times than I care to imagine, and have been greatly inspired by Anne. For those of you who don't know, and I should hope that would be a small number, Anne of Green Gables is in essence about a young orphan with a wild imagination who is adopted by a brother and sister with a very strict, Christian mindset. When Anne comes into their world both sides learn more than they originally thought. I am sure that this is not the explanation that an avid fan of the books would give, however it is the simplest explanation I can give. Anne's lively imagination is one of the many things that set me on the path of writing, and I hope that if you haven't read it yet you will now!

One evening Marilla, coming in from the orchard with a basket of apples, found Anne sitting alone by the east window in the twilight, crying bitterly.
"Whatever's the matter now, Anne?" she asked.
"It's about Diana," sobbed Anne luxuriously. "I love Diana so, Marilla. I cannot ever live without her. But I know very well when we grow up that Diana will get married and go away and leave me. And oh, what shall I do? I hate her husband-I just hate him furiously. I've been imagining it all out-the wedding and everything- Diana dressed in snowy garments, with a veil, and looking beautiful and regal as a queen; and me the bridesmaid, with a lovely dress, too, and puffed sleeves, but with a breaking heart hid beneath my smiling face. And then bidding Diana good-by-e-e--" Here Anne broke down entirely and wept with increasing bitterness.
Marilla turned quickly away to hid her twitching face; but it was no use; she collapsed on the nearest chair and burst into such a hearty and unusual peal of laughter that Matthew, crossing the yard outside, halted in amazement. When had he heard Marilla laugh like that before?
"Well, Anne Shirley,"  said Marilla as soon as she could speak, "If you must borrow trouble, for pity's sake borrow it handier home. I should think you had an imagination, sure enough."
(Anne of Green Gables, chapter 15)

So, this is my second book post, and I hope you all appreciated it! Please comment, and follow!

Book idea

Hello Bookworms!
Today is idea revealing time! (You didn't think I would forget, did you?) So, I've been working on the ideas for this book for a while, and I am planning on finishing this book within two years! So, by June of 2016 I hope that this book will be Finished! (Just a hope, but I'll be working towards it)
Alright, so the book title is Villain's guide to fairy tales. The basic premise is that winners write the history books, and the only way to find out what actually happened is to ask both sides. So, we all know the heroes version of fairy tales, but do we know the villain's side? Maybe the true villains aren't actually the labeled 'villains', but those who we all thought perfect (AKA the 'heroes'). Anyway, this is a possible clip from the story, however it might change depending on what you guys think.
~

“So you’re Rumpelstiltskin?”

“No, not really. I mean if anyone has any right to claim being Rumpelstiltskin it’s me, but that’s not my real name.”

“I thought you were beaten because she guessed your name, and it was Rumpelstiltskin!”

“Yeah, I made that up. She was having such a hard time I made it up and let her guard hear. I didn’t know she would break her end of the deal!”

“Wait, I thought the deal was that if she guessed your name in three days she could keep the baby.”
“And I would get the gold she failed to pay. You know, a small bag of something or other. I’ve got to live too you know!”

“That’s not what I read. Wait, if your name’s not Rumpelstiltskin, then what is it?”

“Rowan. And she must have made the rest of it up. After she guessed my name I asked for my gold, and she pulled out an axe and started swinging away at me! I used up the last of my magic getting out of there, with nothing but my body in one piece to be grateful for. She must have made it up to excuse her bad aim.” She glanced quizzically at him as he explained. “She hit the floor a couple of times, so I think she was embarrassed.”

“So there’s more than one.”

“What, silly princesses? Yeah there’s more than one, there’s a ton of them!”

“No, misnamed villains! I was accused by my son and daughter-in-law; they said I cheated on a test that my husband orchestrated!”

“Wait a minute, you mean the princess and the pea? Wow, nice try miss ‘I’m so jealous of a teenage girl’”

“You’re one to talk, ‘Rumpelstiltskin’! I didn’t do any of it! I wonder if there’s more?”

“More what?”

“People who were accused who really didn’t do it! I wonder what their stories are!”

“I don’t care, just get me out of the rain!”

That was the start of what was to become the greatest team of underdogs this world has ever seen.

So, what do you think? I want honest opinions! Do you like the story ideas? Do you think they should meet in a different way? Do you think these characters should be completely innocent? Or should they still have a bit of a dark streak? Please leave a comment, and please follow! Have fun reading! Habent sua fata libelli.

Shady Friday, #10

Hello Bookworms!
Today is my tenth Shady Friday! I really need to find something else to do. Anyway, Today I am posting a recent story idea, and hoping that you all like it! Pretty soon I'll be posting some pictures that have inspired my stories, but I have to find them first so until then I'll have to keep posting normal posts.
~
Amethyst Jade. Possibly the most advanced assassin guild in the fifteenth century. If they were a normal guild, they would probably get countless job requests. As it is they get at least fifteen a day, more than the number of members, to be sure. There are six members to that guild; oh, and it's a female guild. Wind Leaf, Lotus Brew, Eagle Claw, Smoked Gem, Cold Lightening, and White Shadow. Of course, these are not their real names, they are names that were chosen by their leader, Lotus Brew. (Cliche, but she found it appropriate.) Each of these assassins trained under the very best in all the lands. They learned how to fight with every weapon, to disguise dangerous facts, to brew dangerous poisons; and have all developed an immense resistance to ninety-five percent of the planet's poisons. Yet what they have in skills and resolve, they lack in willing clients. In this day and age, mercenaries are rebuked by the culture around, and most are of the mindset that women are never to be involved in a fight. So, as this tiny guild surges to defy the world, they are fighting to keep the pride they have built up.
~
Ok, so definitely not historically accurate, but other than that the idea is coming along! I will be doing a character analysis on each of the characters soon, (Like they do in preparing for Disney movies) but it may take a while. I hope that in the end it'll be just like a well planned fairy tale! Please comment, and let me know what you think! Also, please follow! Habent sua fata libelli!
P.S. NOT one of my best works, but the idea is still in the process of elimination.

Shady Friday, #9

Hello Bookworms!
Almost half of my blog posts are Shady Fridays, that's different. Anyway, (I use that word way too often, I need to come up with a new one) Today I am sharing several different openings for short stories, and I would like your help deciding which one to work on first.
~
1. Dark.
Old town on the west coast. Dark corner. Clouds rolling in. Tsunami in ten minutes. The sensible people have all fled for the hills by now, and no one is left to care for the town. All the makings of the perfect murder. Whose murder? Mine.
2. Romance.
Spirits high with romance Elane glided through the field of flowers. Dreaming with her head full of flowers, she fantasized about her dashing prince charming. He would be tall, dark haired, intelligent; and would do anything for her. This apparition faded from her mind as she tripped on a rock and fell tumbling down a small cliff and into the ravine. Drenched from head to foot she found herself staring up at one of the most obnoxious teenage boys in her school, and he was quite put out to see her.
3.Comedy.
Some people say that a villain will always be a villain. Seriously people? It's like you're challenging me.  Those heroes won't protect you for long. Anyway, people misunderstand villains. We're not 'evil' per say, we're just morally challenged. The choices we make are for the betterment of the entire society. People just need to see that.
4. Tragedy.
The melody of spring rings through the air. Bark and moss wander past in an endless trail of peace and tranquility. A warm breeze brushes past, and the scent of flowers is thick on the spring air. What tears have been shed upon this trail? What memories lost in the endless wood? A gentle reverie of remorse carries with it a chance at new life, and the will to reclaim what is lost.
5. Action.
A sword slammed down into a desk. Dark blue eyes glared at a young teenage boy.
"The blade of Thagnar, as promised. Now pay your end!"
The young boy smiled. "Well well captain, nicely done. But do you mind not denting my desk in the process? It's an antique"
Alex, the captain of the royal navy frowned. Since when had this young prince developed such a cruel sense of humor; if this continued much longer he might very well have to resign from duty; but what would his family do then?
~
Thank you for continuing to read these posts! If you haven't already, please comment, and follow! Also, which of these ideas would you like me to continue? Also, do you have any suggestions for other short stories? Thank you again!

Writing block corner

Hello Bookworms!
Alright, so I have found that every single writer I know suffers from writer's block. Therefore, I have decided to do a small blog post on how to move around writer's block. Today's is basically explaining a character flaw and development idea.
When you think your characters are either too cliche (In the bad way) or too perfect, one way to advance them is reading over the 'evil overlord' list and others like them. I personally have developed countless villain's plot lines and character traits using these lists. Basically all I do is look over the list, and think to myself; Which of these mistakes would my villain make, and which would he be clever enough to avoid? This helps me a lot with all my characters, and also the plot points. After all, if the villain is trying to kill all of one type of character or another, wouldn't some of them get angry and try to rebel? Anyway, I hope this helps you with writer's block! And even if you aren't going through writer's block, it's a fun idea to try reading through them anyway, and trying to remember who made those mistakes.
Besides that, I have a clue as to the plot-line of my new story, and I would like you to try and examine it.

Books or Movies? Introduction

Hello Bookworms!
Alright, so today I am addressing a topic which has caught my attention. Please be warned, for the moment this is the only controversial topic that I will address on this blog, I don't  want to get into an argument with people. Anyway, I have noticed that most of this generation seems to be of the opinion that books are pointless, and eventually every good book will be turned into a movie. The result they reach is that there is no reason to read. Unfortunately, when you use that reasoning that is the only result to get. Therefore, I would like to open up a 'debate' as to which is better. Please respond with which one you think is better-with your reason why-and then once I have enough comments I will do another post like this one and address the  thoughts. However, I will list my personal reasons why books are better than movies.
1. Books are longer.
If you are reading a book or watching a movie, you are (supposed to be) doing so for entertainment's sake, and also to analyze the story's plot-lines; what it says about the world, and what the underlying message of the story is. Books take about five to six hours to read, if you are an expert. (My books normally do, maybe yours don't) Movies on the other hand take only two hours to watch, except for some of those long ones like The Lord of the Rings, which take about two and a half to three hours. The point is they are very different.
2. Books use your imagination.
A book can say 'It was a green forest,' and you can imagine a gorgeous emerald forest with moss growing underneath, or you can imagine a dusty old forest with dying trees and dry ground; the choice is left to your imagination. When a movie tries to show you a green forest, it shows you what the writer thinks a green forest would look like. This is just another image on a big screen filled with flashing images that never once use your imagination. If you think a line went the wrong way in a movie, that's your thought, and you have to deal with it. In a book however you can imagine the conversation with the tones and inflections you think the character might have.
3. Books are accessible.
When you are on a long car trip or a camping trip and there is no electricity, (You should be enjoying nature, but in case you're not) you can always read a book. Movies you have to wait for, and find plugins for, they come with all these strings attached; however books are always there. Books you just have to pick up and read, and then suddenly you are in a whole different world. And for this world you don't have to tune out the rest of the world, you can pause at any time and just pick back up where you left off.
Anyway, please tell me your thoughts on the matter! Thank you for reading, please follow and comment! Habent sua fata libelli!

Shady Friday, #8

Hello Bookworms!
Alright, so today I decided to share one of my writing techniques. This doesn't help you complete stories that you are writing, however this does help you come up with ideas for new stories. Under Microsoft word there is the option to change the fonts to one of several different options. This includes styles like Lucinda, Papyrus, or Algerian.  This story opener was developed after finding a font called "Xi Rod". The style is reminiscent of the future, and robots, so I came up with this story opener. Enjoy!
~

In the year of 2017 a great plague devastated half of the planet known as earth. We came from across the stars to help, and yet they feared us. Their numbers were fewer than 1 million people, and therefore they could not use their insanity to stop us. We took over their governments to aid them until they recovered, and therefore became rulers of earth until they recovered from the plague known as, ‘peace’.

As Ryan read the old manuscript, he shuddered. “Right,” He breathed out at last, “Time to show this to the council.”
~
Alright, so I started the book about a year ago, it's called "Year 3000". Basically World War Three happens, most of the planet destroys itself, and so they establish a world wide peace. But because the world has never before seen world wide peace, an alien race of robots thinks that it is a disease, and that the planet is incapable of governing itself while ill. Therefore the aliens take over the planet until they are cured of this disease. 1000 years later, there is a rebellion brewing against the aliens, who have forgotten why they invaded in the first place. (Yes, the robot aliens are based off of the Cyber men from Doctor Who.)
So, what do you all think? Is there a book you would like me to talk about? Please comment, or follow! I will be posting about some of my ways around writers block soon, so please keep looking for that! Habent sua fata libelli!
P.S. sorry that this post isn't actually on Friday.
